Case Type: Technical Fuel-Supply Case Analysis
Application: Common Rail High-Pressure Pump Inlet
Diagnostic Focus: Internal Hose Collapse / Pump Cavitation
A low-pressure supply hose can appear normal externally while its internal liner partially collapses under suction.
The resulting restriction may appear only when fuel demand rises.
At low flow, the hose may remain open.
Under higher demand:
pump suction increases → weakened inner liner deforms → effective passage becomes smaller → inlet pressure falls.
The hose can return to its normal shape after load is removed.
The outer hose wall may show:
The defect may exist between internal hose layers.
When inlet conditions deteriorate, the high-pressure pump may receive insufficient fuel.
Depending on system design, possible evidence can include:
Useful tests may include:
A new high-pressure pump connected to the same restricted inlet remains exposed to poor supply conditions.
Fuel-hose inspection should consider internal structure, not only external appearance.
A suction-side hose can create a dynamic restriction that disappears during workshop idle testing.
