HEUI diesel injection depends on more than fuel pressure.

The injector also requires high-pressure engine oil to provide the actuation energy used during injection.

This means a no-start condition can exist even when fuel supply is adequate.

HEUI Uses Two Hydraulic Systems

A simplified HEUI architecture is:

Fuel Supply → Injector Fuel Circuit

and separately:

Engine Oil → High-Pressure Oil Pump → Actuation Circuit → Injector

Both systems must function.

Why Fuel Pressure Can Mislead Diagnosis

If technicians confirm:

  • fuel tank supply;
  • filter condition;
  • feed pressure;

they have verified only one part of the system.

The injector may still lack the actuation oil pressure required to operate.
