Automatic transmission diagnosis often begins with fluid level.

That is appropriate, but correct fluid quantity does not automatically prove that the pump receives an uninterrupted fluid supply.

The hydraulic system depends not only on how much fluid is in the transmission, but also on the integrity of the pickup path between the sump and pump.

Fluid Quantity and Fluid Delivery Are Different Conditions

A simplified suction path is:

Transmission Sump → Pickup / Filter → Sealing Interface → Pump

If the transmission contains the required fluid quantity, the first condition is satisfied.

Can the pump draw that fluid without admitting air?
