Repeated side wear on a heavy-truck brake-chamber pushrod or clevis should not be evaluated only with the brakes released.

The static geometry may appear correct while the mounting structure changes position under full brake force.

One important inspection point is the brake-chamber bracket.

Follow the Brake Force Path

A simplified mechanical path is:

Brake Chamber → Mounting Bracket → Pushrod → Clevis → Slack Adjuster

The mounting bracket determines the chamber position and therefore the pushrod operating angle.

Static Alignment Can Hide Dynamic Deflection

With no air pressure applied, the bracket may appear correctly positioned.

During brake application:

chamber force increases → bracket deflects → pushrod angle changes → side loading increases.

Once pressure is released, the bracket may return close to its original position.

Inspect While the System Is Loaded
