Return Volume Alone Does Not Measure Supplier Quality

Without application and installation data, the distributor may be unable to reproduce the complaint.

Classify Application Errors Separately

An application error may involve an incomplete OE number, incorrect engine version, different emissions stage or wrong calibration-code format.

The injector may be fully functional but unsuitable for the installed engine.

These returns should not be combined with confirmed hydraulic or electrical defects.

Record Fuel-Contamination Evidence

Evidence may include:

  • Water in filters;
  • Rust;
  • Metal particles;
  • Dirty tank samples;
  • High-pressure pump damage;
  • Contaminated rail or pipes.

The record should state what was observed rather than automatically assigning blame to the customer or fuel supplier.

Identify Installation-Related Claims

Installation categories can include:

  • Reused copper washer;
  • Damaged O-ring;
  • Incorrect torque procedure;
  • Dirty injector seat;
  • Misaligned high-pressure pipe;
  • Wrong cylinder coding;
  • Connector damage;
  • Fuel system not primed correctly.

A product can pass testing and still be returned because the surrounding installation was not completed correctly.

Use Bench-Test Results as a Separate Category

The injector should be tested with a programme matching its OE application.

Reports may include delivery quantity, return flow, sealing, response and electrical condition. Test pressure, pulse width, fluid temperature and permitted ranges should be recorded where applicable.

Claims can then be classified as:

  • Confirmed injector defect;
  • No fault found;
  • Result affected by external damage;
  • Result inconclusive;
  • Further engine data required.

Review Suppliers With Like-for-Like Data

Supplier comparisons should use confirmed product defects and batch-related findings, not every returned unit.

Application errors may indicate catalogue or sales-process weaknesses. Installation claims may indicate that more technical guidance is required. Contamination cases may point to customer education or system-cleaning needs.

Industry Interpretation

Claims classification supports both fair supplier assessment and better customer service.

Tunisian distributors can use application, contamination, installation and test categories to identify where corrective action is actually needed.

The purpose is not to reduce recorded returns artificially. It is to ensure that purchasing decisions, warranty discussions and technical improvements are based on evidence that separates product performance from selection, system and installation problems.
