Correct Rail Pressure Is Not Complete Proof

A passing rail-pressure test indicates that the high-pressure fuel system can reach the measured target under the tested condition.

It does not confirm:

  • boost pressure;
  • airflow;
  • charge-air integrity;
  • turbocharger control.

Check the Complaint Under Load

Many boost problems are not visible at idle.

Diagnosis should reproduce the power-loss condition and compare:

requested boost vs actual boost

together with

requested rail pressure vs actual rail pressure.

Look for Air-Side Losses

Inspection may include:

  • charge-air connections;
  • hoses;
  • intercooler;
  • turbocharger actuator;
  • intake restriction.
